This is the control of many types of weeds in the lawn after they have germinated and are actively growing in your lawn area.
Multiple products are used for broad spectrum weed control. Three-way products are pre mixed with three separate materials from the factory. In addition to these products we add specific products at specific times for specific weed control such as with Yellow Nutsedge and Crabgrass escapes.
These treatments must be applied 3 to 5 times per growing season for adequate control as new weed seeds are germinating and growing all the time. Some of these products cannot be used when temperatures are above 85 F as they could cause damage to desirable turf. Some weeds such as clover and chickweed can be hard to control. Repeat applications are needed. Spreaders and stickers are added to our mix to help the product adhere to the plant leaf. It is desirable to not mow or water for 24 hrs after applications, although with the use of spreader/stickers good control can be had even if it rains 1 hour after application.
Weed control of 80 to 90 percent with each application is a realistic expectation. Some of these products are a bit more toxic than others and may carry a warning or danger label. With this in mind, once we get your weed population at manageable levels (after one or two applications) we can spot treat from that point on. Spot treating is a method of application where our lawn technician walks around your lawn and spot sprays individual weeds as opposed to blanketing your lawn “wall to wall”. By using this method we can keep your lawn relatively weed free with very small amounts of chemical product.
