Technically speaking, aeration is the naturally occurring process of air exchange between the soil and its surrounding atmosphere. Practically speaking, aeration is the process of mechanically removing small plugs of thatch and solid from the lawn to improve natural soil aeration. It's commonly called "core aeration" in the lawn service industry, and you may have heard of it as soil cultivation (coring, spiking and slicing). Most homeowners simply call it aeration.
What are the benefits of Aeration?
Core aeration can help make your lawn healthier and reduce its maintenance requirements through these means:
Improved air exchange between the soil and atmosphere.
Enhanced soil water uptake.
Improved fertilizer uptake and use.
Reduced water runoff and puddling.
Stronger turf grass roots.
Reduced soil compaction
Enhanced heat and drought stress tolerance.
Improved resiliency and cushioning.
Enhanced thatch breakdown
Our aeration process
We use a reciprocating aerator machine that drives the aerating tine into the ground to about three to four inches.
This machine creates more holes per square food than regular drum aerators and ensures deep penetration.
Drum aerators are dependent on the weight of the machine and the hardness of the ground for the depth of penetration.
One pass with our machine is like two passes with a drum aerator.
We mark for sprinkler heads before starting.
We use a high quality seed with a 98% germination rate.
Our seed has no noxious weed seed content.
Our seed is specially designed for our climate.
Our seed is engineered to be insect and disease resistant.
We use 5 to 8 lbs. of seed per one thousand square feet.
